Jelena Jakubovitch to sing at Womex

Celebrated Russian singer Jelena Jakubovitch will perform on Saturday 29 October in Copenhagen at the Radio Konzerthuset as part of Womex, the trade convention for the world music industry that takes place annually in a European city. Jelena will be singing songs from her new album Burn Burn Gypsy Love - an album of gypsy songs and romances. Choosing her favourites from her own enormous collection of recordings dating back to the 1910s, Jelena then introduced the songs to the instruments of the Gypsy diaspora, drawing a musical line from India through North Africa and Greece to France and Spain. In front of a discerning audience made up of industry professionals and the general public, Jelena will be joined by her accomplished band of musicians.

Dressed to the nines in a retro-chic suit, Slovenia's Magnifico gyrates with Euro irony and sultry smoothness, backed by a burst of Balkan brass and a chorus of go-go dancers. His brand new album Magnification will be out later this summer on Piranha. Meanwhile his pre-release preview concert at Balkan Beats, Lido Club, Berlin on 8 May (www.lido-berlin.de) will be the place to be if you happen to be in Berlin this week, and if not you can catch a glimpse of his unique, hilarious style here.

Tony Allen joins up with Jimi Tenor for Inspiration Information 4

A mouthwatering head to head between Tony Allen and Finnish maverick Jimi Tenor has resulted in the fourth CD in Strut Records' Inspiration Information series. This is a raw, heavy analogue set that shows off the full range of Allen's Afrobeat repertoire with Tenor's off-beat mix of dark humour, tongue in cheek lyrics and tight musicianship. Carthage Music co-publish Tony Allen's compositions.

Balkan explosion on new Boban i Marko Markovic CD

Boban i Marko Markovic pic Brace yourselves for a blast of brass mettle on the new Boban i Marko Markovic album 'Devla: Blown Away To Dancefloor Heaven', out now on Piranha. Here is a studio recording that captures perfectly the live spirit of Boban i Marko Markovic - father and son fighting it out for supremacy on stage in a fray of fervent melodies and driving rhythms sliced through with Serbian scats and English raps and an overall cool funkiness which pushes the boundaries of Gypsy brass music.

Carthage Music looks after the UK master and publishing rights for Boban i Marko Markovic.
